Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - ER (Night Shift)

Location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Shift Start Time: 11:00 PM (with rare flexibility of ±4 hours only for urgent staffing needs)
  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Emergency Room (ER)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1.5 years of RN experience
  • Skill Requirements:
    • Ability to read telemetry
    • EPIC electronic health record system preferred
  • Exams at Orientation:
    • Medication exam (pass/fail, one attempt only)
    • Telemetry exam (pass/fail, one attempt only) — required for RNs working in telemetry units including Labor & Delivery; not required for OR, Psychiatry, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, NICU
    • Failure to pass either exam results in immediate contract cancellation
    • Study materials provided before orientation

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid RN license in Massachusetts
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county search, national criminal search, and federal databases
  • Education verification: Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing verified by third party or transcript with graduation date
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, including physician statement of fitness without restrictions
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start (specific drug panels required)
  • Immunizations or valid declinations for:
    • COVID-19 (most recent vaccine or facility-specific declination)
    • Flu seasonal vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, NICU, Maternity)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with titers, vaccines, or declination (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, Maternity, NICU)
    • Varicella with titers, vaccines, documented history, or declination (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, Maternity, NICU)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, reactive titer, or declination (declinations valid for 1 year)
  • Tuberculosis screening: Two PPD tests or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days; if positive, chest X-ray and facility-specific TB questionnaire required
  • Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance within 30 days prior to start
  • References: Two professional references within the last three years
  • Employment application documenting 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually

Competency Exams and Additional Requirements

  • Pass/fail testing (Medication and EKG) with minimum score of 80% on first day of orientation
  • Emergency Department (ED) experience of at least 1.5 years, including experience within the last year
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification or completion of equivalent module may be required

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
