Medical Surgical Oncology

Overview

• Travel/contract RN role in Columbus, Ohio.
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 19:00–7:30.
• 36 hours per week.
• Contract length: 16 weeks.
• Unit: 16 James Hematology Oncology, a Med Surg unit.
• Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, with up to 1:5.
• Weekends are variable based on unit needs.
• No set or blocked scheduling.
• Floating may include other Med/Surg and Oncology units.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio.
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year.
• 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association.
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Hematology / Oncology experience.
• 2 professional references.
• Employment application.

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start.
• Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 1 year of start.
• Education accreditation verification for nursing program.
• State license verification within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS verification.
• Unit-specific competency exam.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and updated annually.
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement.
• Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and updated annually.
• Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form.
• Ethics and compliance policies acknowledgement.
• Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgement.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Tdap.
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start.
• TB questionnaire.
• MMR immunity or vaccination documentation for measles, mumps, and rubella.
• Hepatitis B immunity, vaccination series, or signed declination.
• Varicella immunity or vaccination documentation.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start.
• Flu vaccine or declination during flu season.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hematology oncology experience.
• Oncology experience.
• ONS certification.

Clinical Focus

• Hematology oncology patient population.
• Diagnoses include lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute leukemias, chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, other non-hem cancers, and other benign hematology.
• Common procedures and treatments include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, heparin drips, and management of oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome.
• Strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention.
