Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Berlin, Vermont
Facility: Acute Care Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit


Assignment Details

  • Contract Length: 32 weeks
  • Start Date: Must start by 12/22
  • Schedule:
    • Minimum every other weekend or adjusted as needed for patient care
    • Must work 2 out of 4 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year's Day
    • Monday to Sunday coverage, no block schedules
  • Unit: Med-Surg Acute Medical/Surgical Telemetry
  • Skills Required at Bedside:
    • NG tube insertion
    • Peripheral IV insertion
    • Telemetry strip interpretation

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Experience:
    • 5 years Med-Surg Telemetry experience OR
    • 3 years Telemetry experience
    • Prior travel experience required
    • Must have completed 2 travel assignments in 300+ bed facilities OR prior experience at any UVMHN acute care facility
  • Certifications:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required prior to starting
    • Telemetry certification preferred
  • EMR: EPIC experience within the past 2 years is required and non-negotiable

Transportation & Location Notes

  • Public transportation is NOT accessible in this area
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended
  • Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays
  • All employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
  • Complete and accurate work history required (including bed count, EMR, facility type)

Required Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification based on job requirements
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
  • NURSYS verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP) within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry Consent Form
  • Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) criminal background check (for Vermont placements)
  • COVID-19 vaccination attestation and questionnaire
  • Drug testing (as applicable)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • N95 Fit Mask test prior to assignment and updated annually (specific acceptable mask types)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within past 10 years
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within past 12 months; chest X-ray if positive
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (10/1 – 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or declination
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination (if assigned to NY facility)

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for all RNs)
  • Color Blind Testing (required)
  • Competency exams as required by specialty

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge (plain light background, no logos/hats/sunglasses)
  • Review dress code and telephone usage policies prior to start
  • Complete auto registration form within 48 hours of signed contract
  • Complete EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours, non-billable)
  • Complete emergency contact form
  • Complete Hep B and Pneumonia vaccination declination forms if applicable
  • NameTag verification setup
  • Workday information attestation

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must provide 2 professional references from assignments within the last 3 years
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required
  • 2-year verification of most recent clinical work history required
  • No public transportation available; personal vehicle recommended with appropriate tires for winter months

This position is ideal for experienced Med-Surg Telemetry RNs with recent EPIC experience and prior travel assignments in large acute care facilities.
