Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
- Shift Start Dates: March 9 and March 23
- Schedule: No blocked schedule requests
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: May float to ED observation unit
- Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
- Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
- Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
- First-Timer: Open to first-time travelers
- Local Candidates: Accepted
Required Qualifications
- License: North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license in hand
- Minimum Experience: 2 years as a Registered Nurse (ED or relevant experience)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Preferred Certification: CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – training provided onsite if not currently held
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start
- Includes SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, international searches if applicable
- Education verification as required
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Up-to-date immunizations including:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Polio vaccine or attestation
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March (no exemptions)
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- References: Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, including at least one supervisor
- Employment Application: Complete with 7 years of work history
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
- Competency exams and unit-specific training will be required.
- Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation.
- Candidates in ER may need to complete a separate CPI course onsite during orientation.
- All required documents must be submitted and approved before the start date.
This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment and meet the licensure and certification requirements. Prior travel experience is not required.
