Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Tech (Radiology / Cardiology)
Location: Freehold, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Cath Lab Tech with expertise in Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath labs. The role involves procedural responsibilities such as accurate monitoring, equipment setup, prepping access sites, recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias, and maintaining a sterile field while scrubbing.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty (Radiology / Cardiology)
- Traveler must be experienced in Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath labs
- Prior travel experience is NOT required; first-time travelers are accepted
Licensure & Certifications
- NJ License required (can be obtained during compliance)
- ARRT (R) or RCIS certification required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ED, not required for CCU; AHA only, RQI not accepted for pediatric placements
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for Maternal Health units
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for ED only, must be renewed annually
- Tech Certification – Preferred but not required for PCT and CNA; required for SPTs
- NIH Stroke Certification – Required annually for Cath Lab, ICU/CCU, SDU, ER, MS/Tele, Telemetry, PACU
- CEUs – Annual requirements vary by specialty, including stroke and trauma contact hours for certain units
- Pass/Fail Testing – Dysrhythmia exam required for RNs; advanced dysrhythmia for ICU/CCU, PCU, ED, OBS, Float Pool; must score >80% with only 2 attempts allowed
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Required within 12 months, must score >80%
Work Schedule & Other Requirements
- Weekday and weekend on-call required during a 4-week schedule period (details discussed during interview)
- Must be fully vaccinated, including COVID booster (declinations not accepted)
- Must comply with facility-specific COVID booster policy
- RTLS badge may be issued with associated cost and attestation
Procedural Responsibilities
- Accurate patient monitoring
- Equipment setup and preparation
- Prep access site for procedures
- Recognition and response to life-threatening arrhythmias
- Maintain sterile field while scrubbing
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering past 7 years, must be completed through approved vendor
- Education verification required, including transcripts/diplomas if schooling was completed outside the US
- Physical exam or "Fit for Work" statement within 12 months of start
- Drug screening (10-panel urine drug screen) within 30 days of start
- Immunizations and titers required: MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer preferred), Tdap (not required), Flu vaccine or approved exemption during flu season
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (annual for ER and Microbiology Lab)
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations must be completed within 48 hours of signing
References & History
- Two current references related to the position, from supervisors/managers within past 2 years
- Employment application or resume required
- Skills checklist related to the position/unit
- Work history verification for past 2 years required (New Jersey candidates must have minimum 1 year verified prior to start)
Additional Notes
- Flu and COVID vaccine exemptions require facility approval and specific documentation
- Photo for badge must be passport style (headshot, no hats/masks, neutral background)
- Fit mask testing completed on day 1 of first scheduled shift
- Various competency and pass/fail exams are time sensitive and must be completed promptly
This position offers a 13-week travel contract opportunity for qualified Cath Lab Techs with the required certifications and experience in cardiac catheterization labs.
