Job Opportunity: CCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Valdosta, Georgia
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Critical Care Unit (CCU)
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week (36 hours) or 4 shifts per week (48 hours)
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
  • Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Unit: Cardiac ICU (CICU) with cardiac progressive (stepdown) beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
  • Float Requirements: ICU, Cardiac Progressive Unit (CPU), occasional float to PCU and rarely to Med Surg/Telemetry (with 4 patients max)
  • Medication System: Omnicell
  • Documentation System: EPIC

Patient Diagnoses

  • Cardiac diagnoses including cardiothoracic surgical patients (travelers do NOT take fresh open heart patients)
  • Stepdown unit with 8 designated cardiac progressive beds

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty (higher requirement noted as 3 years in skills checklist; use 3 years as final requirement)
  • 1st time travelers are accepted
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Must have strong skills (rated 3 or 4 on checklist) in:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Care of ventilated patients
  • Preferred skills:
    • Continuous IV sedation
    • Procedural sedation administration

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • BLS (AHA or American Red Cross)
  • CCRN preferred but not required

Testing & Orientation Exams

  • Pass/fail exams required at orientation:
    • Medication exam (all RNs)
    • EKG exam (for ICU, MS, Tele, ER, Stepdown, Hemodialysis units)
    • Critical Care exam (BKAT) for ICU units (except NICU, Tele, Stepdown)
  • Two attempts allowed to pass each exam

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card
  • Background check within 30 days of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search)
  • Official transcript or diploma copy
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (renewed yearly)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or documentation for past positive)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series completion, or signed declination)
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including THC)
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required prior to start during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no selfies)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and study guides (EPIC, EKG, medication, critical care)
  • Compliance with scrub color codes for unit assignment
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing and competency check-off prior to start
  • Car registration if driving to work
  • Confidentiality agreement, drug and alcohol policy acknowledgment
  • Fingerprinting requirements apply only to CNAs and Recreational Therapists, not RNs

Notes

  • Travelers will not be assigned fresh open heart patients
  • Testing and orientation can be intensive, with multiple exams in a short timeframe
  • Facility encourages support for travelers who do not pass exams on the first attempt
  • 8, 10, and 12-hour shift increments allowed with guaranteed hours per week depending on shift length
