Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Requirements

  • Experience:
    • Level 1 experience required
    • Academic facility experience highly preferred
    • CCRN certification required
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • Licensure:
    • Permanent Virginia RN license required (no temporary licenses accepted)
    • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Prior Travel Experience:
    • Not explicitly required

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
    • All states lived/worked in past 7 years
    • State of permanent residence
    • VA Statewide Repository Search
    • SS Trace
    • All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Nationwide check
    • FACIS Level 3
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • Education verification (diploma accepted)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting:
    • Virginia State Police fingerprint results required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Psych, Children’s Hospital units)
    • Results can pend at start if proof of submission is on file
  • Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search required for Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, Labor and Delivery units
    • Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
    • Results can pend at start if proof of submission is on file

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days of start or two PPDs)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers with booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season
  • TB questionnaire required annually

Orientation & Competencies

  • Pharmacology exam, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting at orientation
  • Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, ICU units
  • Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week
  • Competency exams and abuse reporting competency required
  • Color blind testing required

Documentation & Other Requirements

  • Two professional references required
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • HIPAA confidentiality agreement required prior to start
  • Must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
  • Must provide proof of primary residence matching compact licensure
