Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry)
- Location: Akron, Ohio
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel.
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license.
Certifications Required
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Certifications must be current; candidates with certifications expiring within 30 days of start must renew prior to starting.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results updated annually.
- Fingerprints must be done under code 4723.09 (Nursing).
- Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process.
- Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years.
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination.
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted).
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- TB questionnaire required annually if history of positive TB.
Competency and Orientation
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication dosing during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts).
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone).
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
References and Employment History
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
