Job Summary: Laboratory (MLS) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Largo, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Start Date: January 5, 2026
Shift/Hours:

• 5 days a week, Monday to Friday
• Alternating 5x8 hour shifts between day (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) and evening (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM)
• Flexibility required to rotate evening/night shifts if possible
• Holidays as scheduled (required)
• No weekends or on-call required
• Floating within the department may be required

Experience & Licensure Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Laboratory (MLS) experience required
• First-time travelers accepted with strong experience
• ASCP certification required; ASCP-MLS and BLS preferred

Certifications & Competencies

• ASCP certification (required)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) preferred
• Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, STABLE, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI may be required as applicable by unit or specialty
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
• Competency Exams (as applicable)
• Age Specific Competency Exam (required for all, including CNAs)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (not required for MLS)

Licensure & Verification

• Primary source verification of state license required
• NURSYS verification for nursing licenses (if applicable)
• License Action Review and approval process applies

Background & Compliance Checks

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification for highest level of education
• Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
• Felonies within past 5 years result in automatic decline; older felonies require review

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex Allergy Questionnaire and Latex Screen
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (required for certain units)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes, updated annually
• TB Questionnaire if positive TB result
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (declination accepted for low/equivocal titer)
  • Varicella
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season
• COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking

Documentation & Other Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• I9 or attestation required
• E-Verify or attestation required
• Photo for badge (passport style with solid background)
• Confidentiality agreement and dress code acknowledgment required prior to start
• Security ID application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract
• Portfolio Epic Training Test Out Form may be required depending on Epic experience
• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start required
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start required
• Verification of previous 5 years of work history required (attestation accepted if necessary)

Prior Travel Experience

• Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers with strong experience are accepted

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with at least 2 years of experience. The position requires ASCP certification and offers alternating day and evening shifts Monday through Friday, with flexibility for shift rotation.
