Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lancaster, California
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a fast-paced clinic setting
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- No weekends, no on-call, no float required
- Patient population: Adult and geriatric patients with cancer diagnoses
- Equipment: One Varian treatment machine, one departmental CT simulator
- Provider support available from IV Teams, Pharmacy, Radiology, and Social Services
Experience Requirements
Minimum 1 year of experience required; 3 years preferred
Prior travel experience not required (1st time travelers accepted)
Required experience areas include:
- Adult Acute Care and Adult Outpatient
- Custom molds, custom shields, block cutting
- CBCT/kV/mV imaging, wedges
- Benign brain tumors, external beam therapy, gynecomastia
- IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy)
- Keloids, prophylactic treatments
- Prostate cancer with seeds/fiducials
- Respiratory gating, stereotactic radiosurgery
- Superior vena cava, Hodgkin’s and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Pancreatic and testicular cancer
- Varis-Vision/ARIA, TrueBeam, Varian 21 ex/ix, Varian Trilogy, Varian TrueBeam Edge
- Defibrillators, radiation safety, rapid response/code teams
Preferred experience:
- Teaching hospital environment
- CT simulation, tumor localization
- Radiation dose calculation, Eclipse (Varian) software
- Craniospinal treatments, Graves disease, heterotopic bone
- Kidney cancer, ARIA, GE, Phillips, Siemens, Vision RT
- Patient care in restraints, chart checks, crash cart, emergency cases
- Field shaping, IV starts, lift/transfer devices
- Patient/family teaching, isolation precautions
- Management/leadership experience
Certifications Required
- ARRT or ARRT-T (Radiologic Technologist certification)
- CRT (Certified Radiation Therapist)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider only (no HeartCode)
Orientation & Uniform
- 8-hour orientation provided
- Wine/burgundy scrubs required but not provided
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Background checks including Social Security trace, education verification, and national registries
- Education verification and diploma/transcripts as applicable
- Various certifications depending on unit/specialty (e.g., ACLS, PALS, CHEMO) may be required
- Annual competency exams and safety manual acknowledgements
- Health documents including:
- Physical exam within last 12 months
- Immunizations and titers (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap)
- TB testing (2-step PPD or equivalent) and questionnaire
- Drug screening (10-panel within 1 year)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or exemption
- COVID vaccination series and booster or approved exemptions
- Respirator clearance and fit testing as applicable
