Job Description

Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
Patient Ratio: 1:5
Floating: This is a float pool position with no home unit. You will float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU departments and may float to other metro campuses as needed.
Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
On-call: Not required
Block schedule accommodation: Not available
Local candidates accepted
Pending license not accepted
Return to work restrictions: No more than 7 days off
Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Experience & Skills

Years of Experience: 2 years (higher end of 1 to 2 years required)
First-time travelers accepted
Skills required in settings including Med/Surg, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown
Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring
Cardiovascular care: pre/post cardiac catheterization, sepsis, wound care, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, renal failure, atrial fibrillation, gastrointestinal bleeding, stroke, COVID care
Must be able to float within scope to meet facility needs

Certifications Required

BLS (Basic Life Support)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Preferred Certifications:

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Preferred Skills

Cardiovascular: sheath removal
Gastrointestinal: feeding tube care and management
IV therapy/phlebotomy: accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Kansas
Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
NIHSS certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
Experience managing suicidal ideation (SI)
Experience managing gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB)

Additional Information

Floating between multiple units and campuses requires flexibility
No on-call or block scheduling options
Must complete required background checks, immunizations, and competency exams prior to start
References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
Performance evaluations may be requested after assignment completion
