Registered Nurse - ICU

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shifts: Day/Evening, 12-hour shifts (07:00 - 23:30)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend and some holidays
  • No on-call required
  • ICU experience required
  • No burn experience necessary
  • Epic electronic health record experience required
  • Must pass Telemetry test prior to start

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • National Tech Certification verification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems after hire
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening and BID form (state-mandated)
  • Physical exam (collected to meet agency standard, not facility required)
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • TB test or chest X-ray and TB questionnaire (updated annually)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
    • Varicella vaccination or titer, with exemptions accepted
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
    • Other vaccines or declinations as required by department or state (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)
  • Drug screening per agency standards
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except religious/medical)

Testing and Competency

  • Telemetry pass/fail testing required prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required
  • Remediation process in place for failed Telemetry exams, with up to 3 attempts allowed

Additional Notes

  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years required (agency standard)
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required

This position is ideal for experienced ICU Registered Nurses comfortable with telemetry monitoring and working 12-hour shifts in a hospital ICU setting. Candidates must be prepared to complete required testing and maintain certifications per American Heart Association standards.
