Pediatric Cardiology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role involves pre and post-anesthesia care for pediatric cardiac patients undergoing cardiovascular, electrophysiology (EP), and interventional catheterization procedures.
  • Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatric congenital cardiac patients.
  • Responsibilities include care during sedated studies, clinic visits, and cardiac surgical workups.
  • Requires strong knowledge of normal and abnormal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
  • Perform 2-3 patient visits per day.
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM). Staff typically finish by 7 PM.
  • No weekend or on-call requirements.
  • No floating to other units or sister facilities.
  • Scheduling is self-managed within the team, with manager approval; minimum 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays per month required.
  • Radius rule: must live within 60 miles.
  • Local candidates considered case-by-case.
  • Facility may cancel 1 shift every 2 weeks.
  • All staff assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Cardiac Cath Lab, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and stepdown nursing.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands.
  • Fit test for N95 masks within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually.
  • Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form).
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed.
    • Hepatitis B – titer, vaccine series, or declination.
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray. Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31). Declinations not accepted.
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).

Background and Documentation

  • Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
  • Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3).
  • Annual background check covering 7 years of residence/employment, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches.
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed.
  • Primary source verification of active, unencumbered South Carolina RN license.
  • NURSYS verification required.
  • Drug testing and immunization documentation must be current and uploaded as required.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style badge photo required before start (frontal view, solid light background, business casual attire).
  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to orientation; must be done on a computer, not a phone. Failure to complete results in being sent home.
  • Upload COVID-19 vaccination records if available; COVID vaccination not mandatory but highly preferred. If declined, must complete vaccination declination form.
  • All required documents must be submitted and approved prior to start.
  • Radiation badge not required for this position.
