Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

• 24-bed maximum capacity medical-surgical unit focused on at-risk patients
• Secured unit with enhanced safety features: whole-unit video monitoring, ligature alarms, anti-barricade doors, badge-secured entrance
• Floating required
• Rotating shifts with work required on every other weekend and at least 50% of holidays
• Physical demands include ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs
• Exposure to patients with contagious illnesses
• Facility operates 24/7, 365 days a year

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Floating required

Required Certifications & Licenses

• RN license valid in Missouri (Primary Source Verification required within 60 days of start)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC Provider card) required for all RNs
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, EFM certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit assignment (check specifics if applicable)
• NURSYS Verification required within 60 days of start

Compliance & Background Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 60 days of start, including alias search, counties lived/worked/school, national and federal criminal searches, sex offender search, social security trace, and international background check if applicable
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusion screenings required within 60 days of start
• Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Missouri Caregiver search must be on file within 60 days before starting
• Drug screening: Negative 7-panel drug test required within 60 days of start
• Photo ID and proof of employment eligibility required
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be initiated within 48 hours of signing contract
• Fit mask test required annually (exceptions apply)
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination with no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B series or positive titer required (declinations no longer accepted for new candidates)
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Job Functions & Expectations

• Ability to work full term at assigned location
• Ability to work full shift hours, take call, and work assigned weekends and holidays
• Active role requiring physical stamina and ability to meet essential job functions
• Must comply with all facility policies and safety protocols

Additional Notes

• Resume must include at least 7 years of employment history with no gaps over 30 days
• Two professional references required within the last 2 years
• Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required
• Medication and competency exams may be required depending on specialty and unit

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized med-surg unit with a focus on patient safety and care for at-risk populations.
