Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse First Assist
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Operating Room Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA)
- Unit: 30-bed Operating Room unit specializing in pediatric patients (newborn to 17 years)
- Schedule: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (06:45 AM - 5:15 PM)
- Call: Weekday and weekend on-call duties with a rotating schedule
- Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
- Block scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Local candidates: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of First Assist experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience in Pediatric General Operating Room
- Scrubbing skills required
Job Requirements & Details
- No first-time travelers accepted
- Must have worked in pediatric settings previously
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt with documentation
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required
- Background checks and verifications required within 30 days of start, including:
- 7-year criminal background check
- Sex offender search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and OIG checks (completed independently)
- Drug screening required within 30 days of start, no pending results accepted
- Physical exam within 1 year, confirming good health and no physical limitations
- Annual fit mask testing required (N95) or accommodation with PAPR if needed
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (mandatory, no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titers
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer documentation
- Varicella vaccination or positive titers
- Pass/fail testing required for nursing candidates (EKG, medication calculation, blood administration)
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams required
- References: Minimum 1 manager, supervisor, or charge nurse reference within past year
Additional Notes
- Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) with specific training modules including Cerner Infusion Management
- Dress code and blood administration policies must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Candidates must complete facility-specific documents and forms prior to start
- No return to this facility as a traveler within 2 years of last permanent employment
- Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel role
