Occupational Therapist (OT) – Outpatient (Days)

Job Summary

• Provide occupational therapy services primarily in an outpatient setting with occasional float to acute care.
• Delegate responsibilities to Occupational Therapist Assistants and Aides.
• Perform patient evaluations using formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, developmental, social, and cognitive functions.
• Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans in coordination with physicians.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on conditions, prognosis, and treatment rationale.
• Supervise Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students according to regulatory standards.
• Recommend and assist in securing adaptive/supportive equipment.
• Complete documentation for billing and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and promote occupational therapy services within the community.
• Function as case manager for assigned cases.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Occupational Therapist license in Michigan
• Occupational Therapist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or related field
• Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR)
• NBCOT Certification in Occupational Therapy
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 1 month of hire

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Medium physical demand level:

  • Occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs.
  • Frequently lift or carry 20 lbs.
  • Constantly lift or carry 10 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods, and perform frequent postural changes (stooping, kneeling, crouching).
• Overall dexterity required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling, often repetitively.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment including latex or substitutes.
• Exposure to stressful situations including trauma, grief, and death.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
