Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU (Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit)

Unit Information

• Unit: Combined Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU and Stepdown)
• Beds: 12 ICU beds and 6 Stepdown beds
• ICU beds monitored 24/7 by teleICU in addition to admitting providers unless signed off overnight
• Patient Ratios:

  • ICU: 1 nurse to 2-3 patients (depending on acuity)
  • Stepdown: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Equipment:

  • Spacelab bedside monitors for ICU and Stepdown
  • Capability to use balloon pumps (typically not assigned to travelers)
  • Arctic Sun available but rarely used
• Support staff includes monitor techs (TeleTech/unit clerk), patient care techs, and sitters as needed
• EMR system: EPIC

Position Details

• Shift: Days, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12)
• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
• Weekend hours: As needed
• Float requirement: Must float as needed within the unit
• Call requirements: Not specified

Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor patient care plans
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition appropriately
• Serve as primary coordinator of all disciplines for coordinated patient care
• Carry out physician and nursing orders
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning with healthcare team members

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Valid Driver's License
