<h2>Job Description</h2>
<p>The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care services in alignment with their responsibilities, ensuring the well-being of residents in a post-acute long-term care setting.</p>

<h2>Principal Duties and Responsibilities</h2>
<ul>
    <li>Observe and report symptoms and conditions of residents.</li>
    <li>Administer medications as prescribed by the physician.</li>
    <li>Provide treatments as ordered by medical staff.</li>
    <li>Count narcotics and maintain accurate records.</li>
    <li>Maintain records reflecting resident conditions, medications, treatments, and progress.</li>
    <li>Transcribe physician orders both written and via telephone.</li>
    <li>Place drug orders as necessary.</li>
    <li>Assist in completing nursing histories, assessments, MDS, and care plans.</li>
    <li>Assist in the orientation and supervision of nursing staff.</li>
    <li>Deliver direct resident care as required.</li>
    <li>Comply with established nursing practices and facility policies and procedures.</li>
    <li>Participate in ongoing in-service education.</li>
    <li>Assume charge nurse responsibilities when needed.</li>
    <li>Prepare and coordinate assignments for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).</li>
    <li>Contact physicians to arrange tests, laboratories, x-rays, and medical appointments.</li>
    <li>Assist physicians during rounds and prepare charts for signatures.</li>
    <li>Check meal trays for accuracy and appropriateness.</li>
    <li>Directly supervise CNAs and ensure quality care.</li>
    <li>Perform all necessary treatments and assessments.</li>
    <li>Handle resident admissions and discharges.</li>
    <li>Notify physicians of any changes in resident status.</li>
    <li>Inform family members and healthcare providers about changes in treatment status.</li>
    <li>Document care and maintain nursing notes accurately.</li>
    <li>Update care plans as required.</li>
    <li>Report to nurse managers.</li>
</ul>

<h2>Physical Requirements</h2>
<ul>
    <li>Able to lift up to fifty pounds.</li>
    <li>Able to push/pull forty pounds.</li>
    <li>Able to stand for up to four hours per day.</li>
    <li>Able to bend, squat, and stoop to floor level.</li>
    <li>Able to kneel and reach heights up to four and one-half feet.</li>
    <li>Able to walk and move intermittently.</li>
    <li>Able to cope with physical and mental job stress.</li>
</ul>

<h2>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</h2>

    <li>Ability to recognize changes in resident conditions and take the necessary actions.</li>
    <li>Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English in a legible and understandable manner.</li>

<p>Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Massachusetts. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.</p>
