Job Opportunity: Float Pool RN (MedSurg, Tele, PCU) - Arizona
Location
- City: Prescott, Arizona
Job Description
- Float between Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry (Tele), and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units.
- Includes inpatient holding in Emergency Department.
- Units span two campuses (East and West).
- East Campus includes ICU and stepdown patients; West Campus includes stepdown and MedTele units.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg Tele: 1:5-6
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years experience in Med/Tele units.
- At least 1 year experience in PCU.
- Current state nursing license.
- ACLS and BLS certifications required.
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.
- Candidates must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI and Dignity) within the past year.
- Must be comfortable titrating drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses: Geriatric patients, orthopedic patients, post-procedural cardiac patients (post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op days 3-4).
- Strong cath lab program; care includes groin site management in stepdown.
- RNs required to interpret cardiac monitor strips; monitor techs present on PCU and MedSurg Tele units.
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow oxygen in PCU and MedSurg.
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 8-hour general hospital orientation day plus 12-hour shifts on MedTele and PCU units.
- Shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM (AM and PM shifts).
- Scheduling: Float pool scheduler creates schedule, published 6 weeks in advance for 4-week blocks.
- Travelers must be flexible; night shift may allow block scheduling.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Holiday requirement: Included in permanent staff rotation.
- No call or standby requirements.
- Unit assignments communicated by text message 2 hours before shift start.
- Distance between campuses: approximately 20-25 minutes.
Additional Information
- Charge nurses present on each unit but do not take patient assignments.
- Nurse aides utilized in all settings.
- Dress code: Currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs per Dignity guidelines in October.
- Contract length: 13 weeks.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with multiple acute care settings, cardiac monitoring, and titrating drips, seeking a float pool role with varied patient populations and units.
