Registered Nurse (Peds PACU) - West Virginia, Morgantown

Job Details

  • Specialty: Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (Peds PACU)
  • Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Unit: PACU (12 beds) & Pre-Op (12 beds)
  • Shift: Rotating 10-hour shifts (2100-0730 and 1100-2130)
  • Call Requirements:
    • 16-24 hours of self-scheduled call per month (weeknight and weekend combined)
    • 8 hours of summer holiday call required
    • Call response time: 1 hour

Patient Care & Environment

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • Phase 1 PACU: 1:1
    • Phase 2 PACU: 1:2
    • Pre-op: 1:3-5
  • Perioperative care assistants available (1 at night, 1:2 ratio in pre & post)
  • Common cases include: Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy (T&A), Bilateral Tympanostomy Tubes (BVTs), Gastroscopies, Laparoscopic Appendectomy, Urology, Orthopedic cases
  • PACU RNs also cover Pre-Op duties
  • RNs are responsible for reading cardiac strips
  • Occasional use of respiratory equipment such as BiPAP
  • Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
  • Charge nurses do not take patient assignments

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience preferred
  • Pre/post-operative experience required
  • Floor nursing experience preferred but not mandatory

Orientation & Dress Code

  • Unit-specific orientation: 2 days
  • Scrubs: Two sets assigned via hospital scrub system upon hire

Additional Notes

  • No floating requirements
  • No charge nurse or house supervisor responsibilities with this role
