Registered Nurse (PCU/Med Surg/Oncology)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (various start times including days, evenings, nights)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Med Surg, Oncology
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses
Job Details
- Patient care focus on Oncology PCU and Trauma PCU
- Mixed unit with RN ratios:
- PCU: 1 RN to 4 patients
- Med/Surg: 1 RN to 5 patients (nights 1:5-6)
- Float to similar level of care units (Med Surg and PCU)
- Nursing assistant support available
- Charge nurse role available
- Self-scheduling available
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue
- Additional unit support: PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician
Required Certifications & Competencies
- RN license required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Oncology certification preferred but not required (e.g., ONS/ONCC)
- Competency or willingness to train on:
- Ventilator management
- Hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000)
- Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring
- Experience with EPIC EMR system preferred
- Familiarity with Alaris IV pumps
- Experience with specialty equipment such as Lyko lifts and other patient lifts
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU, Med Surg, or Oncology
- Oncology and PCU experience preferred
- Experience as a charge nurse requires at least 1 year of relevant experience
- First-time travel nurses are welcome (prior travel experience not required)
Patient Care & Clinical Information
- Common patient diagnoses: Oncology and trauma
- Common drips/medications: Chemotherapy agents, heparin, cardizem, protonix
- RNs may be required to titrate drips such as insulin and cardizem occasionally
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas
- Emphasis on teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and compassionate care
- Focus on hourly rounding to improve patient experience
Orientation & Other Details
- Orientation period: 2 days
- Pass/fail exam during orientation requiring 90% to continue
- Driver’s license required to verify distance compliance (radius rule applies)
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities within 50 miles
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start
