Job Opportunity: OR Circulator RN

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

A hospital in California is seeking an experienced OR Circulator RN for a travel contract. The role involves circulating in the operating room with a focus on orthopedic, spine, and total joint cases, as well as vascular and thoracic surgeries. Robotics experience is highly preferred. Scrubbing is a a plus but not required.

Key Details

• Average Cases per Day: 12 (including add-ons)
• OR Suites: 6
• Common Cases:

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
  • Colon resection
  • Hernia repair
  • Hysterectomy
  • Spine cases
  • Total joints (hips, knees, shoulders)
  • Robotics-assisted surgeries
  • Vascular and thoracic cases
  • No cardiac cases
• Shift Options:

  • 8-hour and 12-hour shifts
  • Typical start time: 6:45 AM (may vary based on cases)
• Call Requirements:

  • One weekday call shift per week (end of shift until 7:00 AM)
  • Two weekend shifts per month totaling 24 hours (Saturday 7 AM to Monday 7 AM, not always continuous)
  • On-call for major holidays only
  • Call response time: 30 minutes
• Floating: May be required to float to inpatient surgery areas, endoscopy (infusions), pre-op, or PACU if experienced. Lack of floating experience requires manager approval.
• Orientation: 3 shifts of 12 hours each
• Additional Responsibilities: Transporting patients, circulating, prepping, and assisting with OR suite cleaning

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience
• Active California RN license
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• PALS certification preferred
• Experience with total joints, ortho, and spine cases required
• Robotics experience highly preferred
• Prefer experience with vascular and thoracic cases

• EMR system used: Cerner - Surginet
• Charge nurse and OR tech support available
• Dress code and scrub color provided by hospital
• 50-mile radius rule applies for travel
