Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Department: Neuro ICU
- Unit Size: 18 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday
- Orientation: 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- Floating: Travelers float first; may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)
- Charge Nurse: Present; may take assignment if staffing requires
- House Supervisor: 24/7 coverage
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 9:1
- Tele/Monitor Techs: Yes, staffed every shift; nurses read and interpret strips (Phillips monitors)
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, etc.
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
- Skills Required:
- Ventriculostomy care
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Ventilator management
- Arterial and central line care
- tPA administration
- Acute stroke management
- Post-craniectomy care
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips per physician orders; variety of drips used
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Neuro ICU
