Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical-ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Winnemucca, Nevada
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Position available at a small critical access hospital in Northern Nevada.
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (6:00 PM to 6:30 AM).
• Self-scheduling with guidelines; 4-week blocks posted two weeks in advance.
• Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
• Holiday requirement: One major and one minor holiday per season.
• Call or standby shifts may be required occasionally, based on census and employee choice.
• Floating between Med/Surg/ICU unit and possibly assisting LTC, ER, and OB units.
• Small hospital setting with 16 Med/Surg beds and 3 ICU beds.

Patient Care & Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Med/Surg: 1:4-6 depending on acuity
  • ICU: 1:1-3 depending on acuity
• Mixed patient population including ICU, Med/Surg-Telemetry, and Swing Bed patients.
• Common diagnoses: DKA, Sepsis, Alcohol Withdrawal, Hypertension, CHF, COPD exacerbation, surgical patients, comfort care, pediatric patients.
• Nurses responsible for their own cardiac monitoring (no dedicated monitor techs).
• RNs required to titrate drips including blood pressure meds, insulin, cardiac meds, comfort care drips (Morphine/Versed), and Heparin on Med/Surg-Tele side.

Required Certifications & Experience

• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIHSS preferred but not required
• Experience:

  • Must have ICU experience.
  • Experience in a similar size facility preferred.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • First-time travel nurses are accepted (prior travel experience NOT required).

Additional Information

• Orientation: 1 day general orientation + 1-2 days unit-specific orientation with a preceptor.
• Nursing staff includes CNAs and unit clerks.
• Respiratory Therapists available during shifts; RNs may assist with respiratory treatments and equipment in emergencies.
• Charge nurse oversees Med/Surg and ICU areas and takes patient assignments.
• Hospitalists on campus 24/7 with a rotating schedule.
• Small town living with access to outdoor activities and state parks nearby.
