Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit RN

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced CVICU nurse in Sacramento, California.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts.
• Schedule: Every other weekend; holidays rotate with core staff.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in California.
• BLS.
• ACLS.
• NIHSS.
• 2 years of CVICU experience.
• 1 prior travel assignment.
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips.

Preferred Qualifications

• Neuro experience for floating to MSNICU.

Unit Details

• Cardiovascular Surgical ICU.
• 20 beds.
• Ratios: 1:1-2.
• Cerner EMR.
• Charge nurse generally does not take patients but does break relief.
• Nurse aides available as census and staffing dictates.
• Vents: Yes.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house.
• RT 24/7.
• Pharmacy 24/7.
• IV team: No.

Floating

• May float to all other Sacramento facilities.
• First to float.
• Mid-shift float to another facility is rare but can happen.

Clinical Focus

• Pre and fresh postop CABG.
• LVADs.
• Empallas.
• IABP.
• TAVRs.
• CRRT (Next Stage).
• All critical drips.
• Swan monitoring.
• Travelers will not take LVADs.
• Core staff will validate skill for CABG recovery, IABP, and CRRT.
• IABP is not 1:1.

Additional Notes

• Very high acuity unit.
• Candidate should be proactive and confident to ask for help when needed.
• Must work all assigned cases; no special accommodations.
• Floor orientation: 1-2 days with a preceptor.
