Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical Telemetry (PCU Float Pool)

Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7pm–7am)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Overview

• Provide nursing care on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit with a focus on Progressive Care Unit (PCU) float pool.
• Unit has 49 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5.
• Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COVID-19, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal conditions, diabetes, post-cardiac catheterization, and total joint replacements.
• RN responsibilities include interpreting telemetry strips and signing off at least once per shift.
• No requirement for RN to titrate drips; Diltiazem/Cardizem drips are administered at set rates.
• Use of BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments is common.
• Cerner electronic health record experience is recommended due to limited orientation time.
• Floating to East Campus and possibly PCU is required if qualified.

Required Certifications & Exams

• Current state RN license.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing. Failure results in a 6-month disqualification from assignments in this region.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience.
• At least 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.
• Experience reading basic telemetry strips.
• Some experience with cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients.
• Experience with total joint replacement patients preferred.

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Self-scheduling is used but final schedules are balanced by management.
• Weekend requirement: 2 weekends per 4-week schedule.
• Holiday coverage includes Christmas, New Year’s, and Thanksgiving with specific shift requirements.
• No call or standby requirements.
• Nurse aides are available on the unit with a ratio of approximately 1:10-15.
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
• Orientation: One shift of unit-specific orientation.
• Floating assignments include nights and every other weekend (EOW).

Additional Notes

• Candidates must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius.
• The unit is cardiac/medical telemetry focused on the 3rd floor.
• Charge nurse and house supervisor roles are present on the unit.
