Registered Nurse (Med Tele)

Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, rotating day (7:00 AM–7:00 PM) and night (7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48
Unit: Medical Telemetry (Med Tele RN)
Beds: 24 inpatient, plus up to 10 observation/day surgeries

Job Details

• Patient ratios:

  • Day shift: 5:1
  • Night shift (11 PM): 6:1
  • Team nursing with LPNs (LPNs work until 11 PM) at a 2:7 ratio
• Common patient diagnoses:

  • Nursing home patients, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, genitourinary issues, pacemaker care, sepsis
  • Day surgery cases: orthopedic (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI
  • Small pediatric population (~3/year), only assigned to travelers with prior pediatric experience or if no other options
• Charge nurse role: Charge nurse takes an assignment; travelers may be placed as relief charge nurse
• Nurse aids available on unit
• Hospitalist or intensivist coverage until 6 PM daily; telemedicine used after hours
• Respiratory therapist available 24/7; equipment includes CPAP
• Telemetry monitoring: Basic arrhythmia knowledge required; physical monitor located at nurse’s desk
• Floating: Must be able to float to like units and patient populations
• Orientation:

  • Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
  • Day 3: Independent work
• Dress code: Solid professional attire, no specific color required
• Call/standby: Potential opportunity to be placed on call or standby
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday rotation)
• Holiday requirement: Work 2 out of 3 holidays

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license valid in Michigan
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• ACLS certification preferred
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Medical/Surgical or Medical Telemetry acute care nursing
• Preferred experience or knowledge of TURPS-CBI procedures
• Preferred experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 facilities
• Must be comfortable with IV starts (no dedicated IV team onsite)

Additional Notes

• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Limited onsite resources; respiratory therapy oversees entire hospital respiratory needs
• Clinicians who have previously worked for this facility must have a separation of at least 6 months before reapplying
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility

This position offers a challenging acute care telemetry nursing role with a diverse patient population and requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work independently in a resource-limited environment.
