ICU RN Position - Kearney, Nebraska

Contract Length

• 16 weeks

• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Key Requirements & Policies

• Must have a valid driver's license at time of submission.
• Candidates must live within a 50-mile radius of the facility.
• Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity).
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove will result in contract termination.
• RN candidates must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation (exam covers skills learned).
• Block scheduling is generally not approved except possibly for weekends only.
• Duo scheduling or carpooling with another traveler on the same schedule is not allowed.

  • Respiratory distress

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation.
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs troubleshoot these devices.
• RNs must read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips (GE monitors) with tele tech oversight.
• Floating assignments typically to PCU and occasionally MedSurg with ratios of 1:4 or 1:5.

Support Staff

• Nurse aides available based on census; assist with 1:1 patient care or floor support.
• Healthcare Support Tech present 3 days per week (Monday-Friday, 0800-1630).

Shifts & Scheduling

• Shift times: 0630-1830 (day), 1830-0630 (night)
• Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers.
• Block scheduling generally not guaranteed.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
• Holiday requirement: minimum of 2 holidays during contract.
• Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation.
• Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days or less for a 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved.

This position is suited for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care patient populations, titrating drips, and working in a fast-paced environment with strict policies on scheduling and professional standards.
