Job Opportunity: Pharmacist (Contract)

Location: Grand Island, Nebraska
Employment Type: Contract Clinician
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Order verification and dispensing medications for all patients
• Patient work-up and rounding
• Medication reconciliation and counseling
• Preparation and checking of compounded IVs
• Monitoring drug therapy for efficacy and safety
• Identifying drug interactions, adverse reactions, contraindications, allergies, sensitivities, and cost considerations
• Ensuring rational drug therapy in medication dispensing
• Communicating with providers for medication clarification
• Performing pharmacokinetic dosage calculations and evaluations
• Maintaining clinical competency including age-specific competencies, annual skill verification, and mandatory education
• Knowledge of hospital pharmacy drug distribution systems (unit dose, sterile products preparation, floor stock)
• Proficiency with relevant computer hardware and software
• Strong communication skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, confidentiality, and ability to prioritize work demands with minimal supervision
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff

Equipment/Systems Used

• EPIC (EMR)
• Medi-dose (medication packaging)
• BD Pyxis (medication dispensing system)

Shift and Schedule

• 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (only pharmacist until 7:30 AM)
• 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
• 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM (only pharmacist after 4:30 PM until overnight coverage)

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of a college of pharmacy
• Minimum 2 years of experience in an institutional pharmacy environment (preferred)
• Pharmacist licensure in the State of Nebraska (required)
• BLS or ACLS certification (preferred)
• Experience with EPIC, Medi-dose, and Pyxis systems

Additional Information

• Business casual or navy blue scrubs dress code
• On-the-job training with pharmacist staff; new staff receive a training packet and work alongside a pharmacist
• Responsible for all inpatient and outpatient medication orders
