Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour variable day/night shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Hours: Guaranteed 48 hours per week
• Float: Required to float to all inpatient units as needed
• On Call: May be low censused and put on call; minimum call back time is 2 hours
• Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Unit: Medical and Pediatrics (travelers do not take pediatric patients)
• Typical Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:6-7
• Patient Conditions: Adults with respiratory illnesses, stroke, neurological conditions (seizure disorders, MS, chronic back pain), gastrointestinal illness, diabetic management, renal failure, urinary tract disorders, sepsis, wound care, clotting disorders, infectious diseases, acute alcohol withdrawal
• Charting System: EPIC required

Required Qualifications

• License: Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Certifications: BLS
• Experience: Minimum 2 years in Medical-Surgical nursing; Trauma Level II experience highly preferred
• Skills:

  • Hard worker, resilient, manages change well
  • Able to work independently and complete tasks timely
  • Willingness to ask questions and collaborate with team and ancillary staff
  • Positive attitude and flexibility with constant changes during shifts

Additional Information

• Radius rule: Must be outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Scrub colors: Any color allowed
• Eligible for 36 hours of low census unbillable hours; call back pay applies if called in during these hours
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
• Flu season policy: Travelers who decline flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
