Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour night shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday

Unit Information

• 36-bed Medical-Surgical Intermediate Care unit with heavy telemetry
• Patient conditions include stable and weaning ventilators/tracheostomies, sepsis, trauma alcohol detox, GI bleed, colostomy/ileostomy care, chest tubes, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injury, and stroke
• Patient-to-nurse ratio: 4:1 (including insulin drip patients)
• Float requirements: May float to all inpatient units, typically higher acuity units

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Stepdown/Intermediate/PCU nursing (ICU experience preferred)
• Ventilator and tracheostomy care experience required
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• At least 1 prior travel nursing contract required
• EPIC charting experience preferred

Additional Information

• Contractors must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Contract ends on Sunday, not Saturday
• Low census hours available in increments (4 or 8 hours), not considered on-call
• Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed)
• Must be able to work independently, manage change well, and complete tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Flu season policy: Travelers declining flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
• Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply after orientation except during holidays when the unit is closed
