Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Stepdown

Location: Evansville, Indiana

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Shift Details

• Unit: Cardiac Renal Unit Stepdown (32 beds)
• Shift: 12-hour days (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
• Float: Required to float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
• Weekend/Holiday: Work 3 weekends every 6-week schedule; every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Patient Ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7
• Scrubs: No competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires

Experience & Requirements

• Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing
• Prior Travel Experience: At least 1 prior travel assignment required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class mandatory)
• Licenses & Certifications:

  • Current active compact nursing license
  • AHA BLS
  • AHA ACLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Patient Population & Skills

• High acuity telemetry and cardiac patients including:

  • Atrial fibrillation with RVR, flutter, blocks
  • Heart catheterization without interventions
  • CHF, COPD, sepsis, behavioral health/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis
• Skills required:

  • Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
  • Initiate and titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, etc.)
  • PIV insertion
  • Chest tube and indwelling drain management
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Management of stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)
  • Antidysrhythmic dosing (cardizem, tikosyn, amiodarone)
  • Nephrostomy tube care
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
• Must be resilient, adaptable, and socially engaging

Additional Information

• Guaranteed hours: 36 per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• No local candidates within 40-mile radius accepted
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
• Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination
• Orientation: Bi-weekly start dates with no guaranteed GSA hours during orientation week
