Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a 41-bed Cardiac Renal Unit with a high-acuity patient population including telemetry and medical-surgical patients.
- Patient conditions include Afib with RVR, Afib, flutter, heart blocks, heart catheterizations (without interventions), CHF, COPD, sepsis, BH/CIWA, post ablations, and dialysis.
- Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM).
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request).
- Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
- Float Requirement: First to float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus possible.
- No on-call or call-back required.
- Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires.
- Scrubs must not display competing health system or agency logos.
- Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing experience.
- At least 1 prior travel assignment completed.
- Experience in a trauma level II setting.
- Current active compact RN license for Indiana.
- Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Recent experience with EPIC electronic health record system (checkoff class required).
- Must pass telemetry competency tests, including 12-lead EKG interpretation.
- Skills in initiating and titrating drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, amiodarone, etc.), PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and nephrostomy tube care.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, resilience, and adaptability required.
Additional Information
- No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered.
- COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change.
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly with no guaranteed GSA hours during orientation week.
- Unit ratio: Day shift 1:4-5, Night shift 1:5-7. Charge nurse rarely takes patients on days but does on nights.
- The unit has excellent staff retention and experienced leadership.
- Contract is due to upcoming FMLA coverage needs.
