Job Summary
The Anesthesia Technician II provides specialized support to anesthesia providers and the interdisciplinary team across all anesthetizing locations (OR, Cath lab, OB/GYN, CV). This role requires independent work and clinical skills to assist with anesthesia-related procedures and equipment troubleshooting. The position also involves mentoring and training other anesthesia technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist anesthesiologists with preparation and placement of neurophysiologic monitors
- Support induction by connecting patients to monitors
- Assist with intubation and maintenance of patient airways
- Assist with insertion of IVs and other invasive lines
- Support anesthesiologists during outside cases and invasive monitor insertions (arterial access, central venous access, fiberoptic intubation, difficult airway situations)
- Provide ongoing support to the patient care team throughout cases
- Perform salvaged blood processing per protocol when required
- Assist with volume infusions during intraoperative procedures
Schedule
- Mostly Monday to Friday, 7 PM to 7 AM (12-hour shifts) and 10:30 PM to 7 AM (8-hour shifts)
- Rotation or straight 8-hour shifts possible
- On-call for all shifts and weekends as needed
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification via American Heart Association
- Certification as a Certified Anesthesia Technician (CER-A-T) through the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) OR
- Associate's Degree from an anesthesia technician training program approved by ASATT (5 years of anesthesia technician experience accepted in lieu of certification)
- Minimum 3 years experience as an anesthesia technician
Preferred Experience
- Experience in pediatrics and/or women’s health preferred
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of cardiopulmonary systems and infection control
- Advanced working knowledge of anesthesia and airway management equipment, including setup and calibration of pressure transducers and IV fluids
- Ability to anticipate anesthesiologist needs during procedures
- Troubleshooting skills for anesthesia equipment
- Ability to prioritize tasks and follow directions from physicians and clinical staff
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff inside and outside the department
- Demonstrated speed and timeliness, especially in emergency and trauma situations
