Patient Care Information

  • Patient Types:

    • Trauma: Level 2 Trauma patients
    • Neuro: Strokes, stable Craniotomies, CIWA, seizure precautions
    • Medical/Surgical: Respiratory illnesses (COVID/Flu/Pneumonia), long-term trachs with vents, respiratory failure, post-op general surgery, sepsis, thyroid storm
    • Cardiac: STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, post-cardiac cath, post-ablation, 24h post-op TAVR
  • Patient Ratios:

    • RN: 1:3-4 (Days & Nights)
    • Tech: 1:6-12 (Days & Nights, dependent on staffing)

Experience and Skills Required

  • Experience:

    • 1 year of Intermediate/PCU level of care experience
    • 2 years of Med/Surg experience with some PCU experience (if applicable)
    • Must have completed at least 2 assignments of 13 weeks for first-time travelers
  • Required Certifications:

    • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
    • AACCN and CCRN preferred
  • Skills:

    • Trauma experience, neuro checks, high-flow O2, chest tubes, wound vacs, Bipap, general drain/ostomy care, IV starts, trach care, cardiac drips, and insulin titration.

Support on the Unit

  • Staffing:
    • CNA (Ratio 1:6-12)
    • Charge nurse (may have patients if needed)
    • Phlebotomy
    • Resource Nurse (ICU trained, available 24/7)
    • Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7
    • Hospitalist available 24/7
    • PT/OT available Monday to Friday
    • IV/VAT Team for US guided IVs and PICC/Midline placement

Charting System and Equipment

  • Charting System: Cerner (highly preferred)
  • Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, GE Monitors

Orientation and Scheduling

  • Orientation: General hospital orientation followed by 1 day on the unit
  • Shift Times: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730
  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Expectations: Varies based on unit needs

Additional Information

  • Scrub Color: Any, must be professional
  • Parking: Free in designated areas
