Job Overview: Intensive Care Unit Position

Location

  • Total Beds: 411
  • ICU Beds: 26

Job Description

  • Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years in ICU
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted

Patient Care

  • Patient Types:
    • Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Neuro, Ortho, Interventional
    • Conditions include: ICP monitoring, External Ventricular Drain (EVD), spinal precautions, DKA, multi-system trauma, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, stroke
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2 (may occasionally have a 3rd patient during transitions)

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

Skills Required

  • Charge experience (preferred)
  • Neuro and Trauma experience (mandatory)
  • EVD & ICP monitoring
  • Ventilator management
  • Critical care drips
  • Drain management
  • Stroke experience
  • Hemodynamic line management (A-lines/CVP)
  • Cardiac rhythm recognition
  • Chest tube and tracheostomy care
  • Strong assessment skills

Unit Support

  • Charge Nurse: Unassigned (may have patients in critical staffing situations)
  • Resource Nurse/House Supervisor: Available 24/7
  • Respiratory Therapy: In-house 24/7
  • Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
  • Intensivist: Available for consult 24/7
  • Trauma Surgery Team: Monitors their own patients
  • PT/OT Services: Monday to Friday

Charting System/Equipment

  • Cerner (preferred experience)
  • Alaris
  • Pyxis

Floating Requirements

  • May float to Cardiac Care Unit (ICU) and take patients within scope
  • May float to Cardiac Stepdown or Medical Stepdown
  • May float to PICU if pediatric experience is available

Orientation

  • General hospital orientation followed by 1 shift on the unit

Scheduling

  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend (Dayshift: Saturday/Sunday; Nightshift: Friday/Saturday)
  • On-call Requirements: None
  • Holiday Expectations: Varies based on need; requests must be approved by the manager
  • Time Off Approval: Through manager

Additional Information

  • Scrub Color: Any solid color, must be professional
  • Parking: Free parking in designated areas

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Documentation Required

  • Various documents including certifications, background checks, and health screenings.
