Job Description
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, every other weekend required
- Unit: Cardiac Stepdown Unit, PICU (float required)
- Unit Info: 23-bed Cardiac ICU ranked #5 nationally and #1 in Midwest (USNWR) for last 2 years
- Patient Population: Complex heart patients, VAD patients, heart transplant program
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Licensure: Indiana RN license and certifications must be in hand to submit
- Locals: Not accepted
- Staffing Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
- Training: Will accept PICU RNs and provide training on CVPICU
- Certifications Required: BLS, PALS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- Skills Required: Telemetry, ventilator management
Important Notes
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs will generally not be allowed to work at IU Health facilities except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
- First-time travelers are welcome.

Licensure & Certifications
- Valid Indiana RN license (primary source verification within 30 days before start)
- BLS, PALS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- ACLS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke, EFM certifications as applicable per unit
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit Competency Exam
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
Background Checks
- Background check within 90 days of start including 7 years of history (SSN trace, county, statewide, national sex offender, FACIS Level III)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- Education verification (3rd party, may be pending at start)
- Transcript/Diploma (official copies required, may be pending at start)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season (no declinations accepted)
- Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of IU Health Look of Assurance packet prior to start
- Completion of IU Health Compliance Checklist and Confidentiality Agreement (time sensitive)
- Completion of IU Health Traveler Personal Profile and Policy Information forms (time sensitive)
- Self Study Orientation & Test (must be completed 1 week prior to start for certain facilities)
- Fast Track Slide Packet and Signature Forms for select facilities (must be completed ASAP)
- Mandatory RRT Modules (for RRT candidates only) with strict completion deadline before orientation
Employment History & References
- Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years
- Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually
- Application must cover 7 years of history with all gaps accounted for

This is a 13-week travel RN contract in a highly specialized cardiac ICU/PICU setting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
