Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech

Location: North Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (5x8s)
  • Weekend Requirement: No
  • Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including to sister facilities or other campuses
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing Tech experience
  • First-time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Specialty Experience: Sterilization, decontamination, assembly/wrap of sterile processing tech duties
  • Preferred Case Experience: Neurosurgery, Genitourinary, Robotics, ENT, Orthopedics, Transplant, Gynecology
  • Certifications Required: CBSPD and/or HSPA (national certification)
  • BLS: Not required

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience, including experience within the last year
  • National certification: CBSPD or HSPA
  • Level 1 Trauma experience
  • Experience with sterilization, decontamination, and assembly/wrap processes in sterile processing

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and documentation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License or State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, and others as required
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
  • Physical exam completed by licensed provider within 1 year of start (specific physical assessment for Sterile Processing Techs required)
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption during flu season (Aug-April)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • COVID vaccination records highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Radiation badge may be required depending on assignment (follow facility-specific instructions)
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers

Additional Notes

  • Locals may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, and Magnet Hospital
  • Parking available with a one-time payment for nights and weekends
  • During hurricane season (June-November), employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams; consider this before accepting assignment
  • Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
