Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Topeka, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Job Details

Shift: Night shift on Medical-Surgical unit
Hours: Option of 36 or 48 hours per week
Float required
Some weekends required

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as applicable
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as applicable
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as applicable
Chemotherapy certification as applicable
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) as applicable
Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) as applicable
NIH Stroke Certification as applicable
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) as applicable

Licensure

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license required with primary source verification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

I-9 verification
Driver’s License or State ID
E-Verify compliance
7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable if verification pending)
Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
Physical exam within 12 months of start
Fit test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history)
Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
Annual unit-specific skills checklist
7-year work history verification

Competency Requirements

Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or meet/exceed Angoff score)
Color blindness test (online version acceptable)
Competency exams as applicable (minimum 80% passing score)
Annual core testing for subcontractors

Additional Notes

Candidates must be able to float to other units as needed
Some weekend shifts required
Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
