Registered Nurse - PCU (Prestonsburg, KY) Travel/Contract Position
Job Details
- Location: Prestonsburg, Kentucky
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with Med/Surgical and Telemetry experience
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night shift, options for 3 or 4 shifts per week (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5 or 1:6, may fluctuate with census and call-ins
- EMR System: Meditech
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; float within scope of practice required; blocked scheduling not accommodated
- Residency Requirement: Must reside within 75 miles of the facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kentucky
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications:
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Must have a valid government-issued photo ID and a driver’s license
- Ability to float within scope of practice
- Must be able to work every other weekend
Required Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all units except Psych, OR, Rehab, and true Med Surg)
- Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, and III)
- Annual competency renewals as applicable
Health & Safety Requirements
- Annual physical exam or physician statement confirming clearance to work without restrictions
- Negative TB test via QuantiFERON blood test within one year prior to start (T-Spot/PPD not accepted)
- Proof of immunizations or titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccinations or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccinations or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declination must be within 1 year)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Td not accepted; valid for 10 years)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug test (no THC) with expanded opiates and oxycodone, completed within 30 days of start
- Fit mask testing completed onsite (PAPRs not accommodated; religious/medical exemptions reviewed onsite)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
Background & Verification Requirements
- Comprehensive background check including:
- National criminal search, sex offender registry, fugitive database, violent offender checks
- County searches for all counties in last 7 years
- FACIS 3 or equivalent, SAM/EPLS, OIG, and other federal exclusions lists
- Education verification
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Work history verification covering 7 years (third-party vendor verification preferred; attestation letters acceptable if needed)
- Two professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor; Charge RN acceptable for one reference)
- Complete employment application/resume with education and work history
- State-specific registry checks (Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry within 30 days prior to start)
Orientation & Documentation
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly; start date on job is the required start date
- Must complete and sign specialty job description annually
- Required to complete and submit various facility-specific health attestation forms including:
- Employee health attestation with proof of TB results, TB risk assessment, OSHA respirator medical evaluation, and flu vaccine/exemption documentation (screenshots required)
- Must review facility fit test policy and quick badge instructions
Additional Notes
- Candidates must submit documentation within 24 hours of accepting the offer
- Only one job submission allowed at a time
- Assignment confirmation and all required documents must be uploaded timely to ensure compliance and start readiness
