Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse

Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a behavioral health setting.
  • Work every other weekend (EOW) required.
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
  • Candidates must live at least 90 miles from the facility (no local candidates within 90 miles).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Alabama.
  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License matching the name on RN license.
  • Social Security Card or last four digits confirmed.
  • Employment eligibility verification (E-Verify) attestation required.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender registry, education verification, and others must be current and completed within required timeframes.
  • Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form and results must be completed and submitted prior to orientation.
  • NURSYS license verification required.
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed by the Friday prior to start.
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no nose rings) must be submitted within 72 hours of signing.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
  • Annual drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start; instant/rapid tests not accepted.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required for placements starting on or after September 15; no declinations accepted (medical/religious exemptions require facility form and mask-wearing).
  • COVID-19 vaccination is voluntary.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (specific approved mask models).
  • Immunizations or titers required for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with booster or declination as applicable).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap required only if working in Pediatrics.

Competency Requirements

  • Completion of Core Exams I-III (preferred from Prophecy; RN network Orientation Module not accepted).
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • HIPAA attestation required.
  • NIH Stroke Certification required (must be current within 1 year and updated annually; not required for Pediatrics, NICU, or surgery specialties).
