Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit
• Patient population includes pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above (depending on procedure)
• Surgical specialties: general surgery, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, hysterectomy, mastectomy, spine, bariatric surgery
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Block scheduling not guaranteed but grouping shifts may be possible
• Locals not accepted
• Holiday work required depending on number of holidays during assignment

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Orthopedic Surgery, including experience within the last year
• Experience in Urological Surgery
• Experience in an inpatient setting
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
• Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check fingerprint results (no fingerprint submission required by candidate)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Immunizations/vaccinations:

  • Tdap within past 10 years
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including marijuana within 30 days of start (zero tolerance for THC)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season
• References: 2 professional references required
• Current application/resume required
• Skills checklist updated annually

Additional Notes

• Must comply with facility policies on appearance, confidentiality, social media, IT use, and workplace wellness
• Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be updated annually; onsite testing available
• RTO (Request Time Off) policy: holiday work expectations apply based on number of holidays during assignment
• Candidates must complete various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments prior to start

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of surgical experience seeking a travel contract in a fast-paced surgical unit. First-time travelers are welcome, and weekend and holiday work are required.
