Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Oncology/Hematology Charge Nurse)

Location: Irvine, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Lead daily operations on a specialized blood disorders and cancer unit (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, etc.)
  • Balance patient care with leadership duties including staffing, patient flow, and managing complex treatments such as chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and CAR T-cell therapy
  • Mentor staff and ensure safety protocols are followed
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal care
  • Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Schedule: 3x12 hour night shifts, float required, weekend rotation required

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years oncology experience REQUIRED (hematology experience preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years charge nurse experience REQUIRED
  • Prior travel experience NOT required (1st time travelers accepted if experience requirements are met)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Chemotherapy certification
  • Valid state nursing license

Skills and Experience Required

  • Inpatient oncology nursing
  • Administration of chemotherapy
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bone marrow transplant (BMT)
  • Outpatient oncology
  • Active immunotherapy (specific and non-specific)
  • Administration of interferons, interleukins, cytotoxic therapy
  • Recognition and management of chemotherapy side effects
  • Stem cell therapies and graft-related care (rejection, graft-versus-host disease)
  • Care for various cancers including bladder, kidney, brain, breast, colorectal, lung, lymphoma, melanoma, multiple myeloma, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate
  • Handling and disposal of cytotoxic agents and chemotherapy administration methods (continuous infusion, IV push, oral)
  • Monitoring chemotherapy and abnormal lab values
  • IV therapy and infusion management, including ports, PICC lines, central lines
  • Administration of blood products and coagulation factors
  • Use of antifungals, antivirals, antibiotics, antiemetics, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, Neupogen
  • Management of oncologic emergencies (tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, spinal cord compression)
  • Pain management including PCA pumps, narcotic agents, transdermal patches
  • Care coordination and management of chest tubes, colostomies, Foley catheters
  • Isolation and neutropenic precautions
  • Phlebotomy and telemetry skills
  • Telephone triage
  • Tracheostomy and wound care
  • Psychosocial and hospice care

Orientation

  • 36 hours of orientation provided
