Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Contract Length: Flexible, up to 52 weeks (can request 14-52 weeks)
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
Start Date: Flexible
Unit: To be determined based on facility need after clinical evaluation
Job Details
- Patient Care Unit (PCU) RN position
- Current nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 (goal 1:4)
- Floating required as needed within acuity levels
- EPIC experience required
- No Christmas RTO (request time off) approvals
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, etc.)
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, assume standard RN experience for PCU (no lower years specified)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- I9 or attestation
- Driver’s License/State ID (must be within 100 miles of facility)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Background check: 7-year history, must be within 1 year of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RNs within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
- Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Immunizations or positive titers for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination documentation or declination form (masking required if declined)
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background)
- Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists
- Orientation manual review prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
- References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluation
- Employment application/resume required
- Annual skills checklist update
Additional Notes
- VA State Police Search completed onsite first day for certain candidates (home health, hospice)
- Radiation badges not provided for new candidates; existing badge holders grandfathered
- All travelers expected to float as needed within acuity
