Job Requirements & Details
- Must have an Ohio State or Compact RN license.
- Required to float to multiple units including NICU, CV PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical as needed. Must comply with facility float expectations.
- EPIC experience is required.
- Typically prefers candidates with at least 2 years of experience.
- First-time travelers considered on a case-by-case basis; generally preferred to have more than 3 years of experience and Level 1 Trauma experience.
- No special scheduling requests allowed (e.g., no block scheduling).
- Two professional references required at time of submission; at least one must be a manager or supervisor. Charge RN references are acceptable; peer references are not.
Certifications Required
- ACLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI)
- BLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI)
- PALS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for NICU RNs
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – as applicable
- State License Verification (OH State or Compact RN license)
- NURSYS Verification for RN licenses
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal Background Check within 30 days of start (7-year search including all counties lived/worked).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting (OH BCI/FBI) required within 60 days of start and must be updated for each new contract.
- Education Verification through National Student Clearing House or in-house verification if needed.
- Sex Offender Search, Ohio Nurse Aide Registry Search, Ohio Inmate Registry Search, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, and Ohio State Abuse Registry checks required within 30 days of start.
- Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant acceptable). Must include amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, methadone, phencyclidine, fentanyl. New drug screen required if there is a 30+ day break between assignments or specialty/unit changes.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Must be current within 1 year of start.
- Fit Mask (N95) Testing: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually. Onsite testing allowed if prior testing not completed.
- TDAP vaccine: Required within 10 years of start (must be completed after age 11).
- TB Testing: Negative TB test or chest X-ray required. Options include 2 PPDs or IGRA test within 12 months. Positive TB results require additional documentation and approval.
- Annual TB Questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (declination accepted if negative/equivocal titer)
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required October 31 - May 31. Medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility-specific documentation and mask-wearing during flu season.
Additional Documentation
- Employment application or resume required.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
- Code of Conduct and Confidentiality/IT Use Agreement must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- Affiliating Health Record must be completed and address must match legal documents exactly.
- Infection Control Policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- Fingerprinting proof of submission required within 24-48 hours of contract signing.
- Fit Test proof of appointment required if completing onsite.
- Background Attestation and Tdap Waiver forms may be required if applicable.
Notes
- Legal name on all documents and certifications must match exactly with RN license (no nicknames or misspellings).
- Candidates undergoing name changes must provide proof and get approval.
- Local Ohio driver's license holders within 60 miles of the facility may be considered local and not eligible for travel assignment.
- Floating to multiple units requires flexibility and compliance with facility policies.
