Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility: University Hospital (Magnet®-designated, Wisconsin’s #1 hospital)


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day/Evenings, 3x12-hour shifts (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • Call: No call requirements
  • Floating: May float to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Experience in thoracic, transplant, and vascular or cardiac cases (score of 3 or above) required
  • Experience with multiple service lines including trauma, transplant, cardiac, and peripheral vascular highly preferred

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have a Wisconsin nursing license or a compact license from permanent address state
  • BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA) only
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications may be required depending on unit (check unit description)
  • National certification/verification required within 30 days of start and upon expiration (as applicable)

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Operating Room multidisciplinary team to plan patient care timely
  • Communicate and coordinate Operating Room activities to ensure surgical case efficiency and turnover

Facility Requirements

  • Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
  • Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, county, nationwide, and sex offender searches
  • Education verification required for RN (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher)
  • State-specific caregiver screening and Wisconsin BID form required
  • Physical exam (within 1 year) to meet agency standards
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of one adult Tdap)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within required timeframes)
    • MMR (2 doses or positive titers) with medical/religious exemptions accepted
    • Varicella (2 doses or positive titer) with exemptions accepted
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required annually during flu season)
    • Drug screening per agency standards
  • Facility-specific forms such as communicable disease, flu exemption, and pediatric/adult telemetry tests required as applicable
  • Telemetry competency exams required for applicable inpatient units with strict passing criteria and remediation process

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Additional Notes

  • Floating assignments may require working in different units or locations to fulfill contract hours
  • Strict compliance with facility and agency credentialing, testing, and documentation policies is mandatory
  • Orientation and safety manual acknowledgments required annually
