Top-notch eateries serving dishes with locally grown produce and fresh seafood abound, while the two roads running in and out of town lead to some of the world's most majestic wilderness areas. Outdoor activities are plentiful, including hiking and fishing within the city’s borders but only minutes from downtown is Chugach State Park, a 9,000-square-mile park with spectacular terrain for hiking, biking, ATV rides, kayaking, rafting and fishing. Nearby at Beluga Point, watch for the famous white whales that look like they sport permanent grins.
