Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan

Job Details

• Start Date: Desired 01/12
• Shift: 36 or 48 hours available
• Availability: Must be available the first 8 days of assignment and the entire week of orientation
• Schedule: Will work every other weekend
• Floating: Will float to other ICU and Med Surg units as needed; typical med-surg nurse-to-patient ratio approx. 5-6:1

Experience Requirements

• Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year ICU experience (1st timer travel nurses are accepted)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Licensure & Certifications

• Michigan RN License in hand
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Other certifications as applicable (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, CPI)

Unit & Patient Information

• ICU includes PCU and ICU patients mix
• Patient Ratios:

  • ICU/PCU mix: 1:1 to 4:1 depending on acuity
  • Ventilated patients: 2:1
  • Cooling/CRRT/High Acuity: 1:1
• Patient Diagnoses include COPD, Encephalopathy, Drug Overdose, DKA, AKI, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Arrest, Heart Failure, A-fib
• Average of 3 ventilated patients per day

Skills & Procedures

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (dysrhythmias, multi-system organ failure)
• IV insulin protocols
• GI surgery care
• Management of chronic/acute renal failure, CVVHD/CRRT
• IV therapy: arterial line, blood product administration, central line, PICC line, IV starts
• Medication administration: continuous IV sedation, emergency meds, procedural sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Neurological care: CVA/acute stroke management
• Respiratory care: BiPAP, CPAP, ventilator management, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, suctioning (ETT, NT)

Orientation & Work Environment

• Must be available for the entire orientation week
• Floating to med-surg units as ICU census fluctuates
• ICU physicians may retain patients with low acuity, affecting nurse-to-patient ratios

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start (lifetime search from age 18)
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
• Michigan LARA fingerprinting within 45 days of start (for applicable positions)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start
• Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination), Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (vaccines or positive titers)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 45 days of start
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Completion of medication and competency exams within 1 year prior to assignment
• Review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct, Appearance Standards, and Safety Manual Acknowledgement

• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
