Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float - Registered Nurse

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Evening/Night shifts (1900-0730)
  • 8 or 12-hour shifts
  • Every other weekend
  • Holiday rotation
  • No on-call required

Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with ICU experience in adult populations
  • Experience across multiple ICU units such as Neuro ICU, Cardiothoracic, Burn ICU, Trauma Surgery, etc.
  • Must be willing to work with IMC/Progressive/General care populations as needed
  • Experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma Center required
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Successful completion of at least one prior travel assignment of 13 weeks (prior travel experience required)
  • Epic electronic health record experience required, preferably within the last 12 months
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start

Licensure & Certifications

  • Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (American Heart Association only)
  • Telemetry test pass required before starting
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP)

  • Autonomy and flexibility working across various critical care settings (Trauma Life Center, Burn ICU, Neuro ICU, Cardiac ICU)
  • Supports Shared Governance participation
  • Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
  • Candidate’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific caregiver screening (WI)
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening per facility and Vaya standards
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TB test or chest X-ray
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
    • Varicella vaccination or titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption (annual requirement)
    • Other vaccines as applicable (e.g., Tdap, Meningococcal for specific departments)
  • Telemetry testing and competency exams required annually and prior to start
  • Photo for badge and signed safety manual acknowledgment required

Additional Notes

  • Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
  • Strict testing and remediation process for Telemetry exams with limited attempts allowed
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years required
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required

This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs who have prior travel experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, academic Level 1 Trauma Center environment with diverse ICU populations.
