Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - ER (Travel/Contract)

Location: Sacramento, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room with a focus on Trauma Level I care. This is a travel/contract position at a Level I Trauma Center.


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience required.
  • Trauma Level I experience is required/preferred.
  • First-time travelers will be considered if they have 2 or more years of ER experience.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Specialty & Skills

  • Experience in Trauma Level I adult and pediatric care.
  • Comfortable managing homeless patients, high volume psychiatric cases, sepsis, and stroke patients.
  • Experience with rapid care, fast track, and ICU-level care in the ED.
  • Ability to start and maintain IVs.
  • Experience working in a high-volume, Magnet-designated facility is a plus.

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) preferred
  • BSN preferred but not required

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Trauma Level I adult and pediatric patients
  • High volume pediatric visits (~1000/month) with 18-20% admissions
  • 30% admission rate overall
  • Units include Fast Track, Rapid Care, OBS Holding, MS Tele Psych Holding, ED-ICU, and designated COVID hallway patients
  • No resuscitation room or triage responsibilities for travelers
  • Patients with PCA pumps may be assigned but are managed by staff

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID (clear photo required)
  • Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, and national sex offender search within 30 days of start
  • E-Verify compliance
  • Physical exam cleared within one year
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or equivalent) within one year
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or declination required by November 1
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific exams (passing score 80%)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
  • Badge pickup required prior to orientation

Additional Notes

  • Must submit Return to Office (RTO) documentation upfront.
  • Magnet facility environment.
  • High emphasis on compliance with all certifications, health documents, and competency exams.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required.
